MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING 
Monday, March 9, 2026
Maple River School, Board Room

The Maple River school board meeting was called to order at 6 p.m.  Members present were Dan Sohre, Julie Lux, Noah Germo, Tyler Hunstad, Business Manager Heine, and Superintendent Anderson. Members absent: Joe Sohre, Karson Duncanson and Andrea Sonnek.  Also attending were Laura Phillips, Dean of Students, Laura Olson, Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA), and Steven Shute, Maple River Messenger.  

The pledge of allegiance was recited.
Motion by Tyler Hunstad to approve the agenda/additions. Seconded by Noah Germo. Motion carried.

Community Comment:  None.

Motion by Julie Lux to correct/approve the minutes of February 9, 2026, School Board Meeting.   Seconded by Tyler Hunstad. Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve the bills in the amount of $454,624.90. Seconded by Tyler Hunstad. Motion carried. 

Motion by Tyler Hunstad to approve the treasurer’s report.  Seconded by Noah Germo.  Motion carried.

Board Report: Laura Phillips, Dean of Students
Laura went over the three-year A+I plan and read ACT update. The Capti training is new this year. New Math curriculum is being reviewed and she provided a status of this process. 

Motion by Tyler Hunstad to approve the 2026-2029 - Integration Budget.  Seconded by Noah Germo.  Motion carried.

Motion by Tyler Hunstad to approve the agreement with Mankato Area Adult Learning Cooperative for Adult Basic Ed. Services.  Seconded by Noah Germo.  Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve the Minnesota Lake Property for sale.  Seconded by Julie Lux.  Motion carried.

Personnel: 

Motion by Noah Germo to approve Summer Job Posting. Seconded by Julie Lux. Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve Spring Coaches. Seconded by Julie Lux. Motion carried.

Motion by Julie Lux to approve Spring Activity Workers Pay Guideline. Seconded by Noah Germo. Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve the retirement of Sandra Stenzel, Music Teacher. Seconded by Tyler Hunstad. Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve the retirement of Peg Breiter, Paraprofessional. Seconded by Julie Lux. Motion carried.

Motion by Julie Lux to approve retirement of Jan Samuelson, Paraprofessional. Seconded by Noah Germo. Motion carried.

Motion by Tyler Hunstad to approve Kylee Yang as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher. Seconded by Noah Germo. Motion carried.

Motion by Noah Germo to approve the long-term leave for Melissa Sanders, Paraprofessional from February 9th, 2026, to March 6th, 2026. Seconded by Julie Lux. Motion carried.

Motion by Julie Lux to approve the resignation of Rebecca Doering, Paraprofessional. Seconded by Noah Germo. Motion carried.

Member Julie Lux introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION  04-26 TO ACCEPT DONATIONS
BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No. 2135, that the following donations be accepted with appreciation:
The motion for the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member Noah Germo
and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:  
Dan Sohre, Julie Lux, Noah Germo, and Tyler Hunstad
the following voted against the same: None. 
whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.  

Board Member items of information were shared:
Facilities update – will be meeting with Mamouth for track.

Superintendent items of information were shared: 
The Spring sports kicked off today. 
JWP is joining MVED and the Board is approving this tomorrow night. 
Will be scheduling the Negotiations meetings.

Bids on Milk Products
Maple River Public Schools

Independent School District No. 2135, Maple River Public Schools, Mapleton, Minnesota will receive bids on milk products for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. Bids will be accepted until 1:00 pm on Friday, May 8th, 2026. These bids are to be received in the Maple River District Business Office located in Mapleton. Action will be taken on these bids at the regular School Board meeting on June 8th, 2026. Specifications may be obtained from the Maple River Food Service Director, Heather Ehlke, (507) 524-3918 ext.4282 or hehlke@isd2135.org.
The Maple River School Board reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids and to waive any technicalities.

ASSESSMENT NOTICE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING
ASSESSMENT AND CLASSIFICATION OF PROPERTY
This may affect your 2027 property taxes.
The Board of Appeal and Equalization for the Township of Pleasant Mound in Blue Earth County, Minnesota will meet at Pleasant Mound Township Town Hall at 1:30 PM, Tuesday the 28th of April 2026.
Visit www.blueearthcountymn.gov/LBAE or call 507-304-4251 for meeting information. The purpose of this meeting is to determine whether property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the assessor.
If you believe the value or classification of your property is incorrect, please contact your assessor's office to discuss your concerns. If you are still not satisfied with the valuation or classification after discussing it with your assessor, you may appear before the County Board of Appeal and
Equalization. The board shall review the valuation, classification, or both if necessary, and shall correct it as needed.

Blue Earth County Board Summary
The Blue Earth County Board meeting was held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Blue Earth County Courthouse, Commissioners’ Room, was attended by Commissioners Kip Bruender, Patty O’Connor, Kevin Paap, Mark Piepho and Vance Stuehrenberg.  Also present were County Administrator Bob Meyer, County Attorney Pat McDermott, and Administrative Assistant Stephanie Jahnke.

Commissioners voted 5-0, unless otherwise noted:

    • Approve an Interim Use Permit to operate a 45-campsite campground (South Bend Township). 
    • Appoint Ms. Sara Frederick to the Library Board. 
    • Accept the low bid from Martin Marietta for the 2026 Gravel Crushing Contract.
    • Approve an agreement with the State of Minnesota for the purchase of two electric pickup trucks.
    • Approve a resolution for the purchase of two electric pickup trucks.
    • Accept the low bid from Wendell Lorentz Construction for the County State Aid Highway 69 reconstruction. 
    • Approve a resolution requesting a speed study on County Road 60 (Stadium Road). 
    • Approve the March 17, 2026 Board Minutes.
    • Approve the bills as presented.
    • Approve a resolution appointing the County Administrator and entering into an employment agreement. 
    • Approve resolutions for the continued payment in lieu of taxes for certain affordable housing properties owned by the City of Mankato and Blue Earth County.
