Local multi-generational farmer Pat Duncanson was been selected as co-Grand Marshal for the 2026 University of Minnesota Homecoming Parade. Duncanson, who graduated from the U with a Bachelor's Degree, is the CEO and CFO of Highland Family Farms in Mapleton.
"I've been on the other side of that equation as part the Alumni Association leadership who made the decision of what kind of person do we want as Grand Marshal - to represent students and other alumni and demonstrate the impact the University can have on people's lives," says Duncanson. "When I got the call, I couldn’t talk for 30 seconds. I was literally speechless."
He joined CentraCare President CEO Dr. Ken Holmen and Carissa Carroll, CEO of Jack's Basket, non-profit supporting individuals with Down syndrome, as co-Grand Marshals. They led the homecoming parade in the Twin Cities on Friday, October 23, and was recognized during the U of M homecoming football game against Iowa on Saturday.
Duncanson began his post secondary education at Minnesota State Mankato, before transferring to the U of M. He is currently enrolled in the Farm Business Management Program at South Central College.
"I'm a fan of higher education, I'm a fan of the land grant system and I'm a fan of the power of education and what it can do to lift people's lives."
Duncanson and his wife Kristen started Highland Family Farms in 2017, and currently grow corn, soybeans, and rye and raise piglets. Pat has served as Chair of the U of M Alumni Association and earlier this year he received the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association Volunteer Service Award.
